Yeah it would really retail over 10k. haha It has Garmin color GPS. I don't have that in my frontier yet. The frame retailed around 3500. Wheels 1500$. Campy Record around 2000$. Zero Gravity Brakes around 500$. Seat was 300$. Garmin 700$. 150$ bottle cages. Tires and latex tubes 150$. 550 for bars and stem. Upgraded all bearings to ceramic which retails around 600$. Oh and the Nylon power cables would retail around 100$. 10,050$.

I'm friends with this guy who is a bike shop manager though so I probably paid about 6k.

I use to race downhill mtb. None of that in Texas though, Ive lived here for a year and it sucks.

Oh and BTW Trek sucks!

Bahahahah. Yeah, a 90mm wide integrated bottom bracket tube with no bearing cups, sucks. Oh, and let's not forget about the same deal with the headset. Least flex out of any C.F. frame ever made = more efficiency? Man, what were they thinking??? Oh, and a 1/3 of the price of that Ridley.

(I hope you sense the sarcasm by now, I'm laying it on pretty thick.)

I've raced a Trek 8500 for a few years now, and I have no complaints. Hand welded in Wisconsin. Non of that over-seas crap.

The best type of cyclist does a little of each. They all have their advantages. Most of the top XC riders actually train with their road bike, and hit trails in between to keep up on their technical skills.

I once saw a shirt that said:
Road = aerobic
XC = anaerobic
DH = adrenaline

I use to do some of my Downhill training on a Road bike. Ride hard on a road bike and you get good lungs and legs for taking hard landings and for out pedalling other competitors in DH races. But yeah the best way to expierence cycling in my opinion is to dabble in all of it. Don't just do DH or just do Road or XC.

I was at Highland last weekend watching the GS2 and ECCC collegiate series DH event. Those guys were easily hitting some serious speeds. On Saturday (the practice day) a kid launched a jump and put his face into the top of the next jump. Broke his full face helmet in 2, ripped his mouth open joker style and had 10 hours of neurosurgery that night. They gave him a 50% chance of living when they put him on the chopper. I guess he's in stable condition right now. Got really lucky.

I wanted to race, but there isn't an "alumni" category in the ECCC, so I bought a lift ticket and did some riding until the lift line got horrendous.

My camera doesn't do well with motion, so I consider these a few decent shots:
