OK- So I got the 205 Nissan Frontier 4X4 used and the PO had changed out the wheels and tires. The TPMS light is on and I just ignore it - although I do think every once in awhile having low pressure sensors in the tires/wheels might not be a bad idea.
I was wondering if anyone has pulled a set of 4 from their wheels or has a set of take offs sitting in the corner with the sensors they may want to break down ,pull them out and sell them reasonably?
I have looked and new ones are available in the 40 to 60$ area which make this a not so good "wondering".
motovate first really need to ask whats a 205? is that for the yr of your pickup then is it a 05' or a 15'?. I thought sensors came standard or mandatory in either 07'-08' do you have em or not? or is yours the 15' also most people when changing rims put the sensors in from the oem rims since they're in there mounting and un-mounting thats why you see all those used oem Nissan rims for sale with out the sensors. Did you check to make sure you dont have them already and just need to do a reset?. http://www.clubfrontier.org/forums/f8/reset-tpms-warning-yourself-works-74391/
But back to point what does that $40-60 include cause 1 new sensor is $75 from your neighborhood Nissan plus $ plus $ plus $ plus $ and it isnt just buying new sensors an poppin on is that price for everything or not and if not did you figure in what you'll be charged for the un-mounting from rims of tires then the pairing or coding of the new sensors to your vehicle and the remounting n balance
***BTW the plus mention earlier is blah blah blah IE:removal, install, mount, balance, environmental, shop supplies ect ect.
OK- I did drop a zero on the year 2005. Since it has the sensor problem light on I suspect it came with them and they are gone -----but I suppose it is possible they were switched although I believe he just traded for the wheels and tires - he was kind of vague about the light being on though. Yes I did think about the extra costs and your blah blah blah listing is correct. That's why I added the + and was looking for a very inexpensive sitting in the corner collecting dust set from some one who runs mostly off road and didn't want to mess with the hassle of the switch/reset. I found a whole list of sensors for Nissan Frontiers on Parts Geek - at least one of them was install and reset ready and their cost's were $40 to $60 new - I didn't look for Nissan brand since I knew they were going to be off the wall price wise. Actually I do not see "all them Nissan rims for sale" - in my areas on Craig List any way.>
Actually I never tried the reset - but just for grins I'm going to do that and see what happens I may be surprised!
I was wrong here is a listing on CL with prior to 2008 Nissan wheels with the TPMS https://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/wto/6140711197.html. Guess Nissan put them on before it became mandatory since you have the light
Just my suggestion you could try this also if these guys are close head to Discount or NTB see if they'll scan the wheels should be able to tell you if there are in there working or not and or which sensor is dead.
I only looked at your post because I also have a bad one but it isn't dead the needle is stripped in core before I got pickup so I just been living with it. The place I brought tires from last time the guy was able to do install without taking out the valve core of course I sat there and held the needle to release a lot of the air lol.
The sensors pretty much only have a life expectancy of 7ish yrs or so for battery I looked on eBay also. With mine being a 10' I figured when I replace tires again I'd put a new set in what I found were a lot are new but 7 to 10 yrs old anyway so I can replace working ones with something the same age lol. So I looked aftermarket but have yet to find a reliable source(better than 1yr) that I can replace with Rock is always a good place they've got em starting at 34 and going up.
OCGuy appreciate the listings know these weren't meant for me and I don't want to get off topic just IDK if these guys are using generic pictures or not. I took a look at the manufacturing date code they imprint on each of them. And as I had found with the listings of new or new-other oem sensors on eBay I had contacted a few sellers that I wasn't able to read the date and received messages back with the same dates it looks like all of them that I found and you listed are pretty much close to upper limit of their useful life expectancy.
I couldn't find any newer than yr 2010 BTW
I was looking to replace the sensors also but decided not to. I'm in the habit of checking tire pressure any way so I figured why spend money I didn't really need to. I did find the sensors for a reasonable price on Rock Auto. Check them out.
That means your current ones are most likely dead. This is one of those things that you should buy new, like underwear, or batteries.
And just because you check your tire pressure regularly doesn't mean that TPMS has no value. I have had several incidence where it notified myself or a family member of a fast deflating puncture. 2 of which would have caused serious issues if not address immediately, like high speed driving on 75 series tires.
OK! This what you need to know. I had a 2005 Frontier and got a 2014 and switched my wheels and my TPMS light never came on, so they work thru all the years it seems. Unfortunately your truck is a 2005 and 9 to 10 years is all your going to get out of the sensors before the batteries are dead. The stock sensors are made by schrader and you can get them a lot cheaper by not buying them at the dealer with their ridiculous markups. VDO also provides TPMS oem sensors to manufacturers. You can get VDO SE10001HP REDI-Sensor from a large online retailer that starts with an "A" (don't know if I am aloud to list it) currently listed at $28.94 each. I had to change mine because I still had my 2005 sensors in my truck and they went dead about 6 months after I put them on. I am running the VDO's and they work great. Just use the programming instructions from the earlier post. Wally world can change out the sensors for $5 a wheel. You may have to call around because the last time I did it for my fathers Altima I argued with 2 incompetent female automotive managers who did not know dick about cars. Finally got a manager on my third try that told me $20. That's what I paid on my truck also. Hope this helps. Good Luck
