Superchips owners....

Starting a new thread here for current owners and future ones to help out a little bit on the differences with the tunes. Add any comments you would like to. Make sure to list year of your truck, auto or manual, and any performance mods you've done so we can see how some mods might affect the different tunes. And state which tune is your favorite.

2006 Nismo 4x4, 6spd, IMS, Nismo intake, custom cat back.

Regular tune: Must admit I've only just tried this one out for about 10 minutes. The truck ran smoother than factory, but didnt really do much for power.

Performance: I've run this one since the day I got the tuner until about 3 hours ago. Very snappy throttle response and pulls harder in all gears. Seems to increase the throttle response down low, but unleash most of it's power higher in the rpm band. Great if you're running hard.

Tow-performance: Just tried this out this afternoon, basically cause I was bored at work. This gives the great throttle response that the performance tune gives, but it seems to allow more power down lower in the rpm band.

I had the WOT disabled for the use with each tune.

I'm gonna run the tow performance tune for a little while before I decide which one will be permanent in my truck

I have tried all of the tunes. However, I can say I really only like the performance tune. All the other one just feel a bit "choked". (for lack of a better term)

do you guys think the performance gians justify the cost? i haven't done much to my truck yet, just an intake, but plan on doing headers and a catback exhaust later this spring/summer. i'm a performance junkie at heart so anything that will help is "worth it" but having to spend ~$500 for the tuner and $0.20/gallon more at the pump (for 91 octane tune... actually in NY the only gas station with 91 is Sunoco, all others are 93) for ~26hp seems a bit much to me.

but that certainly begs the question.... is it worth it?

if you would let me know, thanks!

Worth it

Whether its worth it is subjective. To me yes it was. You don't even get your hands dirty and in a few minutes you get a true noticeable change in truck performance. I'm using the 87 octane tune, so don't have to buy premium gas if you choose that tune.
The throttle response is just so much better than stock.

2006 SE 4x4, 6 speed, Nismo CAI, Custom cat back w/Flowmaster 50 series dual in dual out

Regular tune: Haven't run it

Tow tune: Haven't run it

Mileage XS tune: Haven't run it

Performance tune: Enabled since day one, WOT disabled. I agree with Red, the throttle response is noticeably better. Most of the power gains are up in the middle/top range. The dyno sheet posted (for this tune) has peak power gains around 4400 RPM if I remember correctly. Removing the WOT restriction was worth the price alone imo. Getting rid of that made for much more comprehensive shifts. Meaning more easily synchronized and smoother in general knowing that how far down you have the skinny pedal is directly related to where you are in the actual throttle/power. I love this tune, it woke my truck up BIG TIME. Worth every penny I spent. (Got my Cortex for $280 delivered back when MS Live had their rebate thing going on, and yes I received my rebate)

On a side note, I keep hearing how good the Tow tune is. I've been meaning to give it a try. What I'm hearing from peeps makes me think that the Tow tune drops the power gains lower in the RPM range, which makes sense and sounds great to me. Nobody wants to run around at 4400 RPMs all the time.

Maybe I'll try the Tow tune this weekend and update this post.

New Owner

Mine just came in last night, but I will definitely post what my thoughts are and how I like or dislike the tunes. I have a 06 SE Auto with a AFE Stage 2 intake and my Banks monster exhaust came in last night as well so I am excited to see the changes this setup will make whether its good or bad

I've used performance from day one and have recently been using tow for the past few weeks. To be honest, it really does feel more torquey immediately off idle and in the lower RPMs. I don't know if it has "stolen" performance from the upper range in order to achieve that or not...i really don't spend much time up there.

I think you would notice the tune more than headers and exhaust. I only had a catback before hand and the gains were minimal (but love the sound). After getting superchips, I feel no more need to spend money on performance.

good to know

thanks guys... i just realized i totally jacked the purpose of this thread (or maybe not) but either way, good info. I will definitely consider a tuner when I save up a little bit more money, hopefully then i will be satisfied (that or stop day dreaming about running a 13.5s quarter mile ha ha)

08' Automatic
8500mi. w/Nismo CAI & T-stat, 3" Muffla, Custom Y-pipe.

My comparisions are rough since I've been driving "to the wood" all over.. so far this is how my truck is behaving.
Raised the RPM/Speed (it was there); WOT disabled.

-Perf. is what I'm using now; seems smoother mid/top.(+ auto)
-Tow/perf. Grunt out of the hole... seems to flounder on the top. (+(?) MT)
Both the above tunes seemed the make my auto shift/drive better
-87 didn't try.
-XS. tried for 5mi. seemed stock.

BTW. Great bang for the $$ and extremely easy install.

Registration Problems

Have any of you had registration problems, I try and register my tuner and it keeps giving me errors in the program I download. Is there anyway to get around this that any of you know? I have called superchips several times and keep getting the voice mail box, help if you can
