I wonder if getting an aftermarker upgrade intercooler for the D40 desiel would work, we should have the mount points for one? That barrel intercooler looks pretty cool but I wonder how well it works, I have a 93 NX with a sr20det swap and I have no room for an intercooler other then cutting my hood.

It's not going to overcome differently-shaped ports and intake manifold runners, though. At this point, since you're already changing the cams and ECU, you might as well just extrude hone the stock VQ40 heads and throw a set of cams in those. I can pretty much guarantee you'd have better results and spend a whole lot less money than getting a custom cam designed for 370 heads on a truck lower end.

Yes, I know this. However, most people on this forum off-road their truck in some capacity, so the STS kit will not be a viable choice for them. In his small single instance, it may be viable.

Yes, ten years ago. What's so funny about that? You don't think dynamometer technology has changed in ten years? Quit reading Super Street magazine.

Turbos don't make much torque?? Where are you getting your info from??? My Turbonetics kit made more torque than HP, 397whp 404wtq @ 8psi to be exact LOL
Okay, I'll rephrase that statement... "your turbo engine will never make low-end torque the way a supercharger will. Turbocharged engines will flat out NOT EVER have the same torque curve that supercharged engines do. That's an indisputable fact. As for my info, I'm getting it from every single dyno chart I've ever looked it in my entire life. Happy now?[/QUOTE]

What about dualscroll turbos? :P Those have nearly instant torque. Unlike a supercharger they also have a good top end as well.

Anytime you have an abundance of ambient airflow, an air-to-air intercooler is better. Just keep that in mind. I'd rather do some cutting than install an air-to-water setup any day.

He's not using a dual-scroll turbo and they do NOT provide "instant torque". You are thinking of a variable-vain turbo, and good luck finding one on the aftermarket and getting it to work properly.

And if he was to spend massive bucks on a variable vain turbo, then all I have to do is get a twin screw supercharger. Bingo, instant top end.

YES, AND THATS WERE MY #4 PISTON FAILED. THE NEW CP'S I HAD MADE ARE NOT ONLY FORGED, BUT THE RING PACK IS ALITTLE LOWER FROM THE TOP. THE REASON MANUFACTURERS RAISE THE RING PACK IS IT REDUCES EMMISSIONS, AND IMPROVES MPG. BOTH OF WHICH ILL PASS ALITTLE ON FOR MORE STRENGTH

^^^ Are you looking for pics of the pistons, cams, rods, supercharger, turbo's, etc.....

They have covered a lot of stuff so far.

Basically the different options to boost the VQ40 and what the VQ40 is built of, ie VQ35/37Hr bottoms and the VQ35 heads.

UH, JUST TO CLARIFY DOOBIE, CAUSE YOUR POST SEEMS VAGUE TO ME...THE VQ40 BOTTOM END, BLOCK ETC SHARES NOTHING I KNOW OF WITH THE 3.5, 3.7. OUR HEADS ARE THE SAME AS 3.5, ONLY WITH DIFFERENT CAMS(OURS HAVE MORE LIFT) AS FOR DURATION I NEVER GOT A DEFINITIVE SPEC, AND BOTH CAN BE CHANGED TO ALLOW FOR DIFFERENT RESPONSES IN THE RPM RANGE THROUGH VVT TIMING
