Thumbs up 2mpg with a 2deg timing advance

Well since I now have Cipher program and waiting on my Uprev tune, I went in and bumped my timing yesturday. On the way to the TNO meet and greet, I hit 16.3mpg after driving 50 miles on the freeway. Now as many of you may or may not know I couldn't hit 14mpg with coasting and a good tailwind before, not with the extra 700+#'s I carry and the wind resistance. So I would recommend to go find someone to do it for you, going rate is about $20, or you can get the Uprev tune and its part of it.....

I am heading to the dealer tomorrow to see why my AC doesn't work, I will see if I can get it done. I will keep track of the mileage on my way back as it is over 90 miles back home.

Brutal, are you running premium w/ the advance. Notice any pinging?

I got my local dealer to do mine last week, the service manager was really cool and did it for free. There is a noticeable increase in low end power.

Well that went over like a lead balloon. The tech that I normally deal with was off on vacation and I got the only tech that wouldn't even listen to what I am saying. According to him after market parts are a waste of money and he has two vehicles over 250k miles bone stock. He even went so far as to insinuate that my after market stereo was the cause of my AC not working.

I listened to his rant for a while then asked him what the hell advancing the timing had to do with after market parts, he said it was a waste of time because the computer would just reset the timing. I told him to get back to work and rotate my tires while he was at it.

Turns out it was a pressure switch on the radiator that busted, probably from when they swapped out the radiator last time I was there.

I go back on Friday and I am asking for a different tech or, hopefully, the guy I normally deal with will be there.

I was wondering if that would happen. 'cause it gives you more power by making it run leaner correct?

then hes a dumbass, cause you have to delete it to for back to 15 degrees before top dead center. otherwise it stays right at 17 even doing a hard reboot. In my experience techs that knock the aftermarket have rectal crainial inversions, they dont know anything but stock and fear what they dont know so they knock it. Cipher is THE program Nissan uses at the dealers and is elementary compared to what I have to use for Jaguar. So just wait till your regular guy gets back and dont try to educate the uneducated

I got mine done free about 2 months ago. It was definitly worth the trip to the dealer. Although the Cipher would be nice becuase without some sort of programmer to hook up to the truck you have no idea if its still there after X amount of time. If for some reason you get bad fuel, any detonating would cause the timing to go back to stock.
