Great, thanks for the info. Do you have Thule or Yakima tracks on the shell? I'm also considering buying a Mule rack from BajaRacks and just having custom feet/mounts made instead of spending the extra $$ for towers and crossbars. Thanks again.
My shell has the Thule tracks. I was also considering a Baja Rack, but I went for custom because the price was pretty much the same in the end and I was able to have it look exactly how I wanted it. Also the I could not figure out a way to have the Baja rack sit low enough to the truck without have custom mounts made anyways. Good luck with whichever way you choose! And post up some pics!
just been catching myself up on your build thread again. im amazed by all the electrical stuff that you have wired into the truck, and im impressed that its not just a bunch of bumpin base BS hahaha. its all practical application largely. sweet setup youre building here.
now...take it camping and lets see some real candid nature shots of the beast in its natural habitat yea?

I was wondering what happened to you... haha Glad to see your back and thanks for the compliment I plan on getting out soon, I've just been looking for an apartment lately so its hard to find time to get out. I know I need to use it though.... There is a tentative trip in the works for early February that should be awesome I hoping for a small weekend trip before then though
life hit me too. been super busy with school and keepin up with work training that my time on the forum has diminished mostly due to the lack of mental will power lol. i have the time just not the energy most days. i read through the posts that i get email notifications for but largely have been silent for comments.
seen your build pop up again and after reading through with the lights, i felt it was time to break the silence lol!.
looking forward to seeing the rig out in the open though. ill be subscribed for those photos coming in Feb.
have you resolved the lightbar mounting? decided to go with the tube clamps or what?

Yea, life sucks sometimes. You just gotta enjoy the little things
I have not really put much more thought into them, but I think I will be using some hose clamps or similar. The cable ties I used make me a little worried.... They would be very easy to steal if someone really wanted them. As for the location in general, I don't mind them there, but the girlfriend thinks they look bad... I can never win haha. So once I get some time to tinker again, I will play around with them some more.
i hate to say it but aesthetically, i would agree with her on the placement..unfortunately (again like her...) i offer no real suggestion for improvement lol. youre pioneering in the field for this one mate. anything sticking off that far on one side alone would also look unpleasant to the eye due to balance. so unless you put it on the other side as well, it wouldnt look right. but, when you think about it..that would be a good idea to have. especially since using the lights during camping would eventually mean that you would have the vehicle running to maintain battery power, and the exhaust exits on the passenger side, so having a setup on the driver's side would mean that you could have the truck lighting camp regardless of where you set camp up at.
wouldnt you feel silly parking in a place that hasnt enough room to turn around, but that you decided to camp at :P
Yea... Its not my preferred mounting location as well. I think I have a plan to fix that (thought about it quite a bit on my lunch)
As for only having them on one side, that will most likely change down the road But the reason I did the passenger side is because that's the side most motorhomes and the like are setup (I meet lots of people in campgrounds so this was important). I planned that out when I first built the platform inside. That's the reason the "shelf" and windoor are on that side. The exhaust really hasn't been an issue on the trips I've taken it on as of yet. Most of the time we just run on the battery. It will go for quite a bit longer than you'd expect. The most that I've gotten out of before having to start, on the worry that it wont start is about 4.5 hours. Thats having the radio on the whole time in "power save mode", using the interior lights sparingly, and using a propane lantern for outside light. All of my interior lights are now LED and now with camp lighting being LED and only drawing a hair over 2 amps my run time should only be slightly less, before needing to start. My dream is to eventually have a dual battery setup with solar charging, but thats still a ways out
Just a thought; if the LED's are bright enough, you could put some headlight tint on them to make them less noticeable on the black rack. You'll probably lose about 20% of the light though..
So its been awhile since my last update. I'm nearing the end of my moving process so more mods are soon to follow. During this process though I managed to do some small things that were on my list.
First I was able to finally hook up the Hella's in my bumper (no more poser look with none functional lights, lol). They are tied to the high beam circuit as well as a switch in the dash. I also moved my roof lights switch to a better position. While I had the dash torn apart I also cleaned up my AUX input. Before I was completely bypassing the factory cig plug one with a 3.5mm cable just coming out from under the dash. So I took the AUX cig plug out and made a custom pig tail off of it that plugs directly into my aftermarket headunit. Also while in there I ran a second AUX input into the shell so now while "glamping" I can watch movies on my laptop with HI FI sound Maybe its excessive? but the cable only cost me like $3 so what the hell right?
