Alright so lighting project is done! (not LED bars yet)
Today I wired up some old lights I had in the garage as much needed backup lights
I believe I wired them in a way nobody has on here.... I wanted to be able to turn them on with a switch and have them also automatically come on when I put it into reverse. Rather than using a 3 position switch to achieve this I used a diode. I also finally made a switch panel in the shell and prewired for the LED bars when they arrive. Here's a crude drawing of the wiring and some pics:
^Disregard the details on the color wire and location, I tapped the reverse signal at the taillight (Sky blue wire)
I'll take a better pictures tomorrow during the day so the details can be better seen.
Looks great man! Must be nice to have them mounted to high, I bet you get a lot of light coverage.

Ok, sorry I'm not savvy with circuit design, even something this simple. What Chris designed is a way to turn the reverse lights on either by switch or putting the tranny into reverse, but when the tranny is in reverse, boom two lights shine onto any car behind... What does it take to allow a switch to control the reverse lights two ways; 1.) Set switch so the state of the tranny controls the lights 2.) Turn them on/off from switch control, even providing an override of when the tranny is in reverse.
Did I ask this clearly and did I correctly understand the current design?

Yes you asked that clearly, and you are understanding our setups (both the same, just achieved in different ways).
That would be the three way switch he was talking about. If the switch is in the middle, the relay will get no on signal. If it is in the 1st position, the signal from the reverse lights (when they are on) will pass through the switch and on to the relay to activate the coil. If the switch is in the 3rd position, than the power (either from an ing or constant source) will go to the relay activating the coil as long as the switch is in that 3rd position.
You could also do it with two regular switches and a relay, if you like.
Mine are under the rear bumper and are always on with reverse. When I turn on the switch it will activate the lights but not effect the factory reverse lights.
