Tonneau Cover

Anyone have a Pace Edwards retractable Hard Cover? It is about $200 less than the Bak RollBak Cover. They are both no drill-clamp in style, and Weather resistant.
Any comments would be appreciated.

I had an early Pace-Edwards roll up on my 95 Dodge Dakota from new till the day I sold the truck (7 years latter). Can't say how it stacked up to the current models but it seems very similar in design/materials to the standard unit advertized today.
My Experience:Yes, it did provided good/fast access to (most of) the bed. It was also very secure, very low profile and sharp looking. That's mostly where the good ended though.
First, it was a BEAR to install. Everything had to be perfectly square /parallel ( and required shimming as I recall) and it required drilling of the bed rail in numerous locations to instal "the box". ( I installed it myself to save $150 and regretted it quickly.)
Next , it never was very water proof and it's leaking only worsened with age/wear in. Snow/Water collected on it and quickly/easily flooded the "gutters"&would dump all over the bed. ( Sometimes, the water in the rails would freeze and make opening impossable untill it warmed up.) It also butted into the tailgate vs ride over it so water seeped in there as well. ( Enough so you couldn't leave cardboard box's, paper bags, cloths, blankets etc back there at all.) Also, while it started out fairly quiet& tight, the metal section ends that ride in the tracks soon began wearing into the track & weather stripping and creating up and down slop in the fit. Within 3-4 years it rattled noteably. At 6 years, it was down right noisy/ distracting.
One major drawback (from day one) was that the metal box that the cover retracts into was something like 9"deep x9 high" xbedwidth(as memory serves) so you lost the first 12" or so bed length.
Lastly, it required a key every time you wanted to open/close it. A real PITA. ( Especially when the top facing lock was frozen!)
FWIW, I would never do another one of these/anything like them. IT's quirks far outweighed it's plus's. My current ( Access Lorado)soft cover ( @ 1/2 the $) is WAY better than that cover in every way except maybe bombproof security (which is over rated IMHO. If they can't see it, chances are they won't try to steel it.)

Thanks Weehooker for your honest opinion! Greatly appreciated.
I went ahead and ordered it, but will keep in mind what you have said. It says that no drilling required, so if in fact I do have drilling. It will be returned.
It ended up being $260 less than the Bak one.

Back when I was looking for a tonneau, I looked at the electric PE and thought it really looked nice. A neighbor had one on his F150 and when I asked them about it he said it leaked like crazy around the tailgate (looked like some bad weatherstripping). One of the downsides for me was the amount of space the canister took up in the bed.
Hope it works for you, let us know how it turns out.

Keep in mind that mine was purchased when they first came out 12 years ago. They may have improved them over time. ( I know they covered the upfacing /freeze prone lock by year two.) The drilling was for mounting the " box" only. The rails clamp. Maybe they have improved that as well. Hopefully it works out for you.
