Problem with BakFlip

I have the BakFlip tonneau cover on my truck and it is falling apart. It seems the adhesive cant stand the summer heat here in Houston. I called BakFlip and someone pickup the phone right away (which is very rare these days). They said they had a batch of bad BakFlip and I may have on of these. They have since resolved the problems and will send me some replacing parts. They also have an upgrade version coming soon.
I think their support is outstanding, but will have to wait and see if the replacment parts look any good.

My adhesive is starting to melt away as well. I have also recently noticed that where the struts mount to the middle of the cover there seems to be a buldge on the ends. When I disconnect the struts the cover levels out, it is as if the struts are to strong or something. I liked the cover at first but after only 5 months of use it is starting to fall apart and I would no longer recommend it to anyone else.

I just got one also and am finding that the adhesive is also not doing it's job. I'll have to get ahold of them also.

just called BakFlip and they are also sending me the replacement adhesive strips. they should have done some more R&D on this cover. otherwise it's a great cover.

They offer me the upgrade version of the BlakFlip free of charge! Hopefully, they make some improvements in the new version.
Beside the weather strips, please check the aluminum housing for the cable to release the latches. On mine, they used double sided tapes to attach the aluminum bar to the panel. The glue on the double sided tapes also fail after a while.

Hey man, how did you go about doing this?? I am not happy with mine as I stated earlier and yesterday I found something else wrong with mine. The thing that holds the release cables to the bottom of the cover is no longer sticking to the bottom of the cover and the cable slides out.

Will

They call that thing "cable housing". They said the new parts use rivets instead of tapes. Tell them you are not good with tools, will they take it back and do it. If they don't, time to get ugly. I certainly don't want to waste $600 then waste more time fixing someone's mistake.

My Bakflip is ok

I have an 07 Tundra and installed a BAKFlip cover on it in April. It is coming up on 3 months old now and has been in the hot summer sun, mostly 80s and 90s here, but no issues at all like what was described on this thread.

The cable channels on mine are not aluminum, they are some kind of thick black polymer and they appear to be glued and riveted in place. The rubber strips on the sides and across the cable channels all appear to be glued in place and have not come off. The cover is water-tight.

From the sounds of the posts above it seems like some of you might have received an older model? I have attached some pics of my cover including a custom drain tube mod which uses brass elbows and the stake pocket holes to avoid drilling. Please share some pics of your Bakflip covers especially the problem areas. I want to compare them to mine and keep a close watch as my cover ages this summer. It seems like an excellent product so far but if it starts to degrade then I am going to be upset to say the least.

I don't have a place to upload the images. But yours looks quite different from mine. For example, looking at the first picture, my cable channels do not have any rivets, event the two pieces at the corners are only attached to the panel by double-sided tapes. They told me that "The cable housing units are now being riveted on and we no longer use glue." So it looks like you have the newer version.

About the rubber strips, here is what they told me:
"Regarding the weather stripping, there was a 6 week process where the
manufacturer of the seal removed the rubber from the curing process too
fast, causing the rubber to shrink and therefore the seal would peel up. We
are very aware of this issue and have sent replacement seal for all these
covers."

When did you purchase your Bakflip, and for what truck?

It would really help if some of you could post pics of your covers which have problems. You don't need to host the photos anywhere, just click the "manage attachments" button when entering a new post and you can attach them directly to your post. Or you can PM me and I will send you my email address so you can email the photos and I will convert and post them for you.
