Pointless Bed Extender

This has been bugging me for a while now. My truck came with a bed extenders and a bed divider which I really don't use.

When I load my motorcycle in my bed I would like to use the bed extender but I can't. When I load the bike I take it off and then once the bike is in I can't put it back on. (Since it has to be at a 90 degree angle to put back into the brackets...and the rear of the motorcycle is in the way.) So is this billboard fake....how did they put on that bed extender with the rear of the bikes in the way? Any suggestions?

Btw I do strap down my bike good enough that it doesn't need the bed extender, but it is nice to have on for looks.

Seems to me that there's enough clearance between the fender and the rear wheel on those bikes to accomodate the angle needed to put the bed extender in its harness. I guess it depends on what bike you have and whether or not you have a SB or LB.

Besides, I've never been one to trust advertising. Buyer beware.

Haha yeah, who knows how they did that.
Nice thing about a crew cab though...you can just secure the ramp in the bed and throw the rest of the gear in the cab.

I have the long bed and the tip of my tire just sticks off the bed. Can almost close my tailgate. Even with those bikes shown on that add, I don't think the bed extender would go on. They should make the anchors on the extender gate swivel, that would solve the problem.

If you're just hauling one bike, have you tried strapping it on the diagonal? With a long bed, that might save enough room to allow you to close the tailgate.

i had my behemoth of a bike in the back when i was moving and stuck past the t.g. an inch or three. so i dont think itll get on there. its a dirt bike im assuming? diagonal you should be able to fenangle (yes its a technical term) the extender on but would it be worth the hassle

I know what you mean, its a pain Ive wanted to use my extender with both my street bike and atv but it doesnt lock in. The main reason I think they do that is as a theft deterrent where as if the extender is backed up to the tailgate you would have to drop the tailgate to lift the extender out (which of course couldn't happen easily if the tailgate was locked.)

Have you thought about just drilling the slots bigger in the brackets so itll drop in from any angle or just filing down the nubs on the ends of the extender?

That's too bad, I would have given you some $$$ for it.

The depiction of the extender holding in the bike is for "illustrative purposes only."
