OEM Roof Rack Tube ???

just thinking of some quick cheap mods to do and was wondering if the roof rack tubes are seperate tubes (not attached to the plastic pieces). if they are seperate, i was thinking of looking for some polished stainless steel tubes/pipes to replace them with.

anyone else think of doing this?...

so if i go with the polish route, anyone know what process it would take to take off the gray coating to expose the aluminum? maybe paint thinner or acetone? then if that can be done, polishing the aluminum involves a buffer of some sort?

looks like this mod is do-able but need some more insight....

I have an Xterra rack I'm gonna install on top of my tonneau. I took it apart completely to repaint the metal and clean the plastic.

thanks for the verification. holding off on the project until i buy OEM chrome door handles.

was reading up on other sites. seems like there is a lot of sanding, then a lot of polishing, and then i think some lacquer to hold the polish and protect from rusting...

i have an 02 and that silver paint is on there like nothing i have ever seen. i painted mine black to match the truck. my freind polished his but it dosent look the best cause the metal is pouris so even being polished it didnt look to great and the plastics kinda threw the whole thing off. and after a year of having to be on top of keeping them clean he gave up and painted his black also.
