Electrical Install

Yesterday I started the electical install. I'm not quite 100% complete but just about everything is run and ready to make the final connection. In my last post I showed the connection of the lights to the harness so I won't repeat that step.

Here is the electical kit as it arrived

I wanted to use one of the switch blanks as the location and considered actaully buying an oem switch but they were $40+ so that led to the "round peg square hole idea"

which ultimatley looks like this

To get the wires through the firewall I decided to pull the rubber plug out and fish the wires through. I guess it would be cleaner to get inside the harness but I hesitated to cut into that

Once I got everything through and run I placed the wires into their own flex tube and zip tied it to the primary harness

There are 3 wire connected to the switch, blue ground, yellow to relay, and green to high beams (standard install)

From the relay there is a blue ground...

...yellow to switch, and red to battery, and black to the lights

Here is the green wire, but instead of taping into high beams, this is tapped into the parking lights, as Steve recomends this gives you the ability to use the Hellas with hi and lo beams, but requires the parking lights to be on so that you will get an annoying ding when you leave these on by mistake.

So now I just got to wait for the darkness to set in.

Test Run

So I made the final connections and waited for darkness to fall. We took a ride down to a little quary near us to see what the results are.

So here is Lo Beams only

Lo with Hella

Lo, fogs, and Hella

hi beams

hi with Hella

this is me driving down the road with another pickup truck right behind me, you can really see the differance here

Oncoming with Lo, Fogs, and Hella

Oncoming with Hi and Hella - let the sun shine!

So that's it. I am real happy with the light bar and the lights. The install was relatively easy. Everything fit like it was supposed to and I got the look and functionality I was after. This is a real sturdy bar and even though the mounting locations appear questionable once all 8 bolts are installed this thing aint going nowhere.

This bar came out about 2 years too late. This is exactly what I was looking for when I wanted to mount offroad lights on my truck. The KMA bumper ended up working out, but was a bit of overkill for what I wanted it for. Looks good man.

yea, there is a thread on here where someone put HID's in the Hella 500's, but I think I'm good. I really wanted something for the woods that was up higher then my fogs and this seems to do the trick.

lol don't get me wrong, I love my bumper and having a winch integrated in it, but at the time I was just looking for a clean simple light bar and there were none to be offered. This is a nice solution for people who just want to mount a couple of lights on the front w/out totally replacing the bumper.

so does that mean no trade?

Yea, that's what I am thinking too, this is a great alternative for someone that does not want (or can't afford/wait for) a full on bull bar, or a front winch bumper. They turned it around in about a week, and the price was right. I'd like to see what other Fronty parts whiterhinofab comes up with in the future.
