I imagine you're in a pretty salty area in the winter, so if it were me, I would make an attempt to get them back on and trimmed, to least minimize the salt and salty slush that gets thrown on your fenders in the winter.
I did some trimming and think I got the rubbing spot. We do get a ton of salt up here on the roads. It is insane the salt and sand on the roads around here.
I think if I had nerd bars or rock sliders it would look good without the guards.
Personally I think the trucks look better with mud guards. And functionally if they are actually protecting the body and fenders it's kind of a no brainer to keep em on.
I installed Nissan OEM guards on my truck and I like the look of them. But that said I installed them to keep the crud off my fenders etc. And they do help!!!
If you take your rig "wheeling" they will get ripped off at some point.
I am rocking them on the rear only as I have sliders, but I pull the rears off when I go wheeling. I keep the rears on to try and prevent kicking up stuff on others that are behind me.
Ultimately its a personal preference. I also live in the northeast and any vehicle needs some sort of mudguard front & rear.
That said, I don't care for the stock guards from a functionality point. They look good, but they capture a lot of mud/sand/snow in them & behind them. Combine that with their rigidity & offroading and they just have to go. I am replacing mine with some universal Rally Armor guards that I will trim to fit both front & rear, along with some spray herculiner for the sheet metal in the wheel well. I hope to minimize the spaces that crud can accumulate without having to remove a bunch of bits every time I go out wheeling or wash it.
