locking wheelnuts

Today was looking to be a good day. got the day off work, got everything I need to do the 2" calimini lift kit I recieved last week, got a buddy and his 3 ton floor jack to help me. But for every laid out plan theres something or someone to throw a wrench into the works. We removed the rear shackles, installed the Calimini ones, simple straight forward, replace the factory rear shocks with bilsteins ordered from PRG, everything was going well. Little did I know what was going to happen. We then did the passengar side spacer installation, everything was going well, untill I found the only nut and bolt on the truck that wasnt metric. easy thing get a 3/4 wrench and socket and life's good. the wrench that got thrown into the works was when I went to remove the drivers side tire. the locking wheel nut was missing a small section, less than a 1/4" of the outside diameter. the pics I have on picture trail show it. I had a 50/50 chance of getting it off without trouble happening. No. Nein nyet, denied. the godamned thing blew up and as you can see in the pics cannot be removed. So Im taking it to the dealership in the morning to have cut off. As you can see in the pics, the exposed portion that was broken off isnt showing any shiny new metal which means to me that it wasnt a fresh break. Now I could be wrong on that count. end result, the last spacer to install, and I cant finish it, because I cant get my damned wheel off. wether or not this was caused from poor manufacturing quality, or caused by tool damage when the wheels were last rotated at the dealership I cannot tell. In the end it is irrelevant. I will never ever get another set of these freaking locking lugnuts. If you see any spot of rust or corrosion starting on your locking wheelnuts, remove them. After I have mine cutoff I can finish the spacer installation. Till then my fronty leans low on one corner. it sucks. Time for a few cold beers.

If I had something other than stock rims, it might be worth it depending on the value. Ill just go to the nearest canadian tire and get the gunk in a can, thatll seal punctures just incase i run into this problem again. Ill be heading to the dealer in a lil bit Ill let you know how it goes.

My locking lug key snapped into pieces and I made the dealer replace all of them w/ regular lugnuts.

I used to use anti sieze on my CJ-5 wheels. Black wheels with all lugs replaced with black Gorilla locks. Damn , it looked good!

I took the fronty to Southside Nissan here in vancouver, they looked at it, said no prob. 10 min later it was off. Ive been taking the vehicle there fomr most things and theyre good there, never once had a problem with them. I still had the original nuts so I had them remove the rear too as well and good thing too. one of the rear ones snapped. so no more locking nuts on it now. I finished the lift kit installation, damn I love it. just neet new tires now.
