EZ Down tailgate......failed big time!

Anyone else have their EZ Down tailgate mechanism totally fail on them? Total metal fatigue on my '05. The metal plate just twisted all to hell.

I've had mine for a couple 2-3 months maybe. All that happened with mine is the clip that holds the shock onto the pivot mount came off so the shock popped off. Not a big deal, went right back on.

This is the first complaint about the metal actually twisting and fatiguing causing the failure. Most have just observed the device falling apart. Maybe you could return it and tell us how it goes.

EDIT: Upon further posts, HarshReality001 actually experienced a similar event.

Yep, that is exactly what my bracket looked like after the fact. After it bent I could not close my tailgate at all until the bracket was removed. Those of you that have these may want to be concerned. Not sure that they can handle the weight of our tailgates.

VERY COMMON. That clip is JUNK and SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED. This failure made me yank mine off for a while. Search "EZ Down" for the simple fix pics ( including mine). I now use a washer between the bolt and replacement post and it just can't pop off ever again. No failures at all since I reinstalled it.
