The EZ-Down gas spring for the tail gate is a nice addition to our trucks. But it has a fatal flaw. The retaining tab is more or less useless. My fix for this is a piece of aluminum. This closes out the larger side of the hoop on the upper attachment post. It is secured to the Ez-down by a 6-32 screw.
This is the first one I made and have run on my truck for the last 4 years.
So here's the deal. With the understanding that not everyone is in a position to make one of these. And if you would like one. Send me a PM with a mailing address, I'll send you one. Or if you are running two gas springs, I'll send you two.
The material to make these comes out of the scrap bin at work. Cost is nothing. I can knock out 12 of these at lunch while I eat. Gives me something to do. And they get mailed out in a envelope. Think mailing a key. So it cost a stamp. Not a big deal.
I'm not looking to make money here. Just retuning the favors of this forum. So I'm not asking for anything in return. I just ask you use them.
I have sent a number of these out to forum members already. As far as I'm aware everyone has gotten there's and are happy with them.
Specifics:
.100 5052 aluminum
Attaches with a 6-32 screw and nut. *You supply this part*
Mounting hole is drilled out at #28 drill or .140 inches.
What I'm sending out.

Any questions just ask. And I delete addresses as I send them out.

this is awesome, as I just installed one of these and the retainer is already falling off. I know what my afternoon project is now. Thanks for sharing and caring.
Thank you for the thought, but no. I'll gladly send you two. Just pm me your mailing address. But I won't take any money. As far as I'm concerned everyone on this forum has already paid me for them. The knowledge here and consideration for others is astonishing. I'm more than happy to help a fellow Frontier owner out anytime I can.
Now on to things. I'll make 12 Monday. Planning to mail out Tuesday or Wednesday next week. I'll pm you when the mail so you know when to start looking for them in your mailbox. About 5-7 days after mailing. Thank you usps. Once they ship I delete your pm with your mailing address. It's how I keep things straight. So don't think I'm selling your stuff to Russian hackers or anything.
Man you weren't kidding about the locking tab being more or less useless! The ez down works great, it's the going back up part it sucks at. I can't believe this passed quality control.
Anyway, do you have a retainer bracket you could send me? I'm happy to pay for stamps

Ez down bracket installs in 15 minutes if you are distracted for 7 minutes.
