bfg tires

got a price quote from discount tire and for a set of 285/75/16 bfg mud terrains and they want 983 and some change and tire kingdom said they would do it for 963.Are these prices good considering the brand or should i just keep shopping around to see if i can get them any cheaper?

not trying to thread crap, I have had BFG all terrains on my old S-10 and then on a 98 Tacoma, and they were possibly the worst wearing tires I have ever had...Great looks, good name, but terrible wear. I do not have experience with the Mud terrains, but if you are going to drop close to $1K on tires I think it is worth it to look at some of the other options. I know there are a lot of people who like the Maxxis tires and I actually just picked up some Yokohama Geolanders. Again, I am running the "all terrain" style so I can not speak directly to the Mud terrain, but I really have to say I was disappointed with the BFGs.

Though taking a look at tirerack.com the BFGs do seem to be highly rated...and they are $961 shipped from there as well.

Not trying to be a wise guy but would you trust an over the border tire guy to a) give you first rate BFG's b) not to mess up your rims? My experience with the quality of Mexican anything hasn't been all that good.

funny, of all the gripes I have with BFG AT's, wear is not one of them (mine lasted around 70k and wore very evenly). My complaints all had to do with how lousy they are in snow compared to just about every other AT I've had.

As for BFG MT's, I've heard of people getting 40k from a set but also that they can be a little scary in snow but otherwise are a decent tire.

2-3? but you went up in size right? are you correcting for the fact that your odometer is reading low now? (ie. going from 265/70-16 to 285/75-16 is a 7% increase so your mileage calcs all need to be bumped up by 7%...although really you should test the odo to see how far it's off and adjust by that amount).
