I always blanked mine out partially I always leave the state plus sometimes I put something in the window to prove that it is mine. It makes me feel safer. There is a reason why they blank it out on T.V. people steal the numbers to get away with tickets as well as the can find out who you are and where you live when normally due to privacy policies it is kept secret.
