Polyfill is a Dacron/polyester fiberfill to be exact. It fools the speaker into believing that the box is bigger than it really is. The point of it is to use it if your box was not big enough in the first place. The Polyfill absorbs the frequency waves/air movement, thereby slowing down the transfer of sound.

If you think about the amount of time it takes the sound to travel it obviously takes more time in a larger box vs. a smaller one. The polyfill delays the frequencies the speaker produces much like being in a bigger box.

There's your science lesson for the day, class dismissed, and don't forget to leave an apple on my desk please . . lol.
