Today I threw together a light cage for my Hella 500s. They had previously just been mounted to the factory cross bar.
The cage is 1/2 tall but I didnt feel like cutting it down today. I will cut it next week.
I wanted to build it so that it folded down when not being used and this works perfectly for that. I was originally going to replace the long tubes from the factory rack with steel... But found that the tube is actually 2.25od not 2.0 inch, so that wouldnt work. A piece of 2 inch tube fits extremely tight inside the factory tube and that was used to give me something to bolt the cage to. I didnt want to just be bolting it to the aluminum.
The nuts that are welded in to the bottom tube of the cage are locking, so I dont feel that I need to have a rear brace to keep it in place. It really isnt going to come un-done unless I remove it.
So, what do you think? And remember, I know its 1/2 inch too tall!!!
