I have an 07 with the VQ40 with about 8K miles on it (had it for 10 months). At about 3k miles I noticed a whine coming from the engine that sounds almost like a supercharger whine. It seemed to do it more in cold weather. Now that it's warm outside again, I have only noticed it once. Is this the timing chain issue? What happens if you DON'T get it fixed?
Oh, and I got the 5 year 100,000 mile warranty when I bought the truck.
Lastly, isn't this VQ derived from the VQ35 that's in Muranos, Altimas, Maximas, etc.? I mean, it was my understanding that this VQ was just basically bored, stroked, and recalibrated for truck use (relatively more torque). Is the timing chain problem found in those engines as well? Because the VQ35 has consistently been voted "best V6" (or at least one fo the best) by almost every car reviewer out there (MotorTrend, Car & Driver, Road & Track, etc.).
Is getting this fixed a "want" or a "need". Do people get it fixed because the whining annoys them, or because your timing assembly can fly apart????
