im pretty sure its a torque converter for the automatics. very few production cars have a clutch in an automatic (the new GT-R for example, i have no idea how it works myself but I hear there are clutches in the sequential gearbox) there wouldn't happen to be any leaks or anything? are your fluids looking OK? this is all I can think about right now. oh, that and the time my friend tried to start off in 4th gear because he saw Jeremy Clarkson start off a new Z06 in 5th and made it to 170+mph before running out of track... that smelled really damn bad. it didn't go away for a long time either.
