by now its only logical and obvious that the issue with ims and gaskets-----
4 people now-is most likely due to batch of bad gaskets. with not one person-at least 2 or 3-from previous gb with any issue. all 4 people with issues from gb 3, leading to believe its very unlikely that there is a variance in the install that would cause this. after 50+ people and into the 3rd gb, im almost certain there is no difference in the way its being installed to be the cause of this gasket failure nor is it even the sharp edges of the ims. and its also obvious that heat is not the issue here after oven tests, thanks to some members.
as i said before, for those who disbelieve-from gb 3-i wouldnt be so certain that you dont have the issue just because you dont have any symptoms/vacuum leak. your not going to know until its removed considering im pretty sure not one of the 4 had any symptomatic issues with their vehicle due to the gasket failure. no need to mention their sn's because we know who they are. and im sure more will arise.
i for one wouldnt feel comfortable not know if my gaskets are shot and my motor is ingesting that gasket material. although the motor is prob like a meat grinder to that stuff and may not even matter, but i wouldnt want to chance it and it seems others dont want to either since they took the time to check.
my solution now is to chamfer the edges-although i dont think thats the problem since its a bad batch of gaskets thats the problem-and order new gaskets from nissan and then install. and not worry really about tq lbs and sequence-although i am going to follow the specs-because i dont think that install variance is an issue either.
and i understand agtitan's wishes on topics discussing the subject to be only to that area or thread but what happened to the purpose of this forum to be able to openly discuss things regarding our trucks and sharing words with the rest?
