What do you guys think of this....
Older vehicles with large rear drum brakes that had a small wheel cylinder to operate the rear brakes in the case of an emergency. Since this wheel cylinder operated the same brake shoes as the regular brakes it was a substantial brake thus capable of stopping the vehicle in an emergency and thus an "emergency" brake.
Newer vehicles with rear disc brakes have an integrated smaller drum-type brake which doesn't have nearly the brake effectiveness as the disc portion and thereby relagated dutes to hold the vehicle in place and thus a "parking" brake.
