it's an 01 cc s/c fronty. when I checked it out after it started bouncing, the coolant was only lukewarm. So it's not over heating the question is, will it hurt anything?
Can you describe bouncing? Is it slowly moving up and down like the engine is heating and cooling quickly? If so check the thermostat. Is it going to around normal, then dropping quickly then going back to around normal? if so check the sending unit connection, or the power line going to the gauge. Is it quickly ( like under a second) from top to bottom? If so you may need to check the wire going from the engine all the way to the gauge. The coolant gauge works by providing power to the gauge, then the temp is read by the sending unit adjusting the ground to give you a reading. If that wire is frayed, it could ground out, taking it to a full reading almost immediately. Good luck, Electrical problems are a beast to pinpoint.
From what else I have found it is the t-stat. So I will be replacing that. It will show normal to on or below C in 3-5 second intervalls. So I guess that needs replaced. Great thing to do on the road, good thing we have friends local. Thank God for friends.
I don't think it's the t-stat, unless it's been replaced lately. More than likely it's the sending unit or a wiring problem. I'd start w/the connection. Clean and grease it.
