How To: Installing PIAA Offroad lights.

this is mainly for silversuper just so he can see how easy it is. but im sure a lot of peopel will benefit from it, so here it is.

1st you going to need.

Wire cutters
Wire Strippers
Crimpers and misc electrical accesories for splicing wires
screw drivers
metric sockets
electrical tape
zip ties

okay lets get started.

first off when ever dealing with electrical and working on your truck you should disconnect the bat.

now i started with basically what is the middle (heart of the system). the relay. all the wires go into/from the relay out out to the switch/bat/lights.

so mount the relay first, make sure it is disconnected from the wiring harness. i mounted mine close to the battery. right above the passenger head lamp, right in front of the bat to be exact.

Next i took the positive wire that hooks to the battery and hooked it to the bat to get it out of the way, but take the fuse out of it so there is no power going threw it!!

Next step. there should be 2 negitive wires. one comming from the relay, one comming from the wiring harness from the lamps. take both those and zip them together for now so they are out of the way. you can ground them now if you want.

after that there is one more wire. this is the wire thats going to go to your switch. you can start to run it to the inside of your cab now, or set it aside and do it later.

next step is you have 2 thick wires (really just the cover over 4 little wires) that head to the lamps.

take both and you need to run them to the back of your grill and thru the holes. i found it easiest to run mine right behind my head lamp. there was a hole there to run them threw.

after they were threw that hole, i pulled them to the right so they were out in the open space behind the grill.

now run them out the grill threw the grill holes. you will notice one is shorter than the other. this is normal.

i dont know how 01-04 or 05+ at set up. but basic idea is get the wires to the opening behind the grill with out running them threw the fan or something important like that! lol use your head when running wires.

now that your wires are ran, i mounted my fog lamps to the brush gaurd.

now plug your lamps in to the connections.
evadently your going to have a lot of extra wire. we need to take care of this. so pull it back thru the grill untill the slack is gone, and pull it straight up and out the top.

loosley wrap up the extra slack and zip tie it, so its nice and tidy. dont do it to tight you dont want to be bending and crimping wires inside. and it doesnt need to be super tight to stay. now that you got it zip tied, stuff it back down inside out of the way. on 98-00 there is this nice bar you can zip tie it down too to keep it out of the way of anything. its right at the bottom of the grill behind it, just look down threw the hole.

okay now you might as well plug the wiring harness into your relay. and tighten your relay down so its good to go.

now if you havnt done it yet, you need to run the power switch wire aka accessorie power wire to the inside of your cab to where ever your switch is located. i suggest a standard 3 prong switch found at autozone or such for like a buck.

i took on of the factory switch spacer things and dremeled it out, and installed my switch into that. looks nice and clean.

now you need to run your accessorie power wire to this switch. it will plug into the middle prong. use a blue electrical connection for this and crimp it on the wire. the bat power prong on the switch you have 2 options. this is what you need to decide.

do you want your offroad lights to work while your truck is turned off with no key in it? or only when your key is turned to the on position.

i chose only when the key is on because these lights can kill your bat quick and when i pull my key out, its like a saftey feature to shut them off.

so if you want your key on for them to work you need to find a power source that is only hot when your truck is on.

if you want them to work with out the key you need to find a power source that is always hot.

after you have found your power source run a wire from that to the bat positive prong on the switch.

then run a ground wire from the third prong on the switch to a good ground. and install your switch.
