its basically heavy duty Nylon plastic. its actually designed for better wear in friction enviroments, but a side effect of the MDS is that its more weather resistant and stronger in compresion (i was using the rest for my custom roof rack mounts). if you go to mcmaster.com and search for mds filled nylon 6 it will come up, and hten you just chose your size...
